Gymnast Spotlight: Abbie Heidenreich, Team ASI Allen
January 19, 2012
In the Heidenreich home, it’s become a ritual to push the coffee table aside to make room for level four Team Gymnast, Abbie, to practice her gymnastics skills.
“Abbie loves gymnastics,” Abbie’s mother, Rachel Heidenreich said. “At our house, it’s all about gymnastics, all the time,” she laughs.
Nine-year-old Abbie has been in gymnastics for four years. To Abbie, gymnastics is a fun sport where she is challenged to learn new skills; she also credits gymnastics for a lot more than that. “At my very first meet I was running to the vault, but I missed the springboard. I’ve learned from my coaches that if I fall or make a mistake, it doesn’t mean I can’t get back up and do it again,” Abbie said.
One of Abbie’s favorite things about being on team is cheering on her teammates and knowing that they cheer her on too. “I love practicing with my friends and cheering on my team. They always encourage me to do skills that I may be afraid to try.”
This young girl enjoys not only being a part of a team, but she also loves being a big sister to Emily, who also attends ASI Allen Kidz Gym 2. She said, “The best part about being a sister is always having someone there to cheer you up!”
Abbie is currently busy preparing for the Dynamite Disco Meet this Saturday, Jan. 21, at ASI Keller. Along with two, two-hour classes a week, this dedicated gymnast takes an extra tumbling class and continues practicing at home daily. “I do a lot of push ups and sit ups, and my mom and dad videotape me while I practice so I can see what I need to work on,” Abbie said.
ASI has become a part of the Heidenreich family. Abbie and her mother Rachel said that ASI’s coaches have made a difference in their lives. “Coach Amanda and Coach Jennifer are so nice, and they give good pointers. They always know that I try my best and always encourage me,” Abbie said. Rachel adds, “She has two amazing coaches! It’s a loving environment, and they truly care about the kids. I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”
Fun Facts about Abbie:
Favorite color: turquoise
Favorite subject: math
Favorite event: bars
Loves to scrapbook and play outside with friends
When she grows up, she wants to be a gymnast or teacher
